I Lost a Listener Last Week

I lost a listener last week.
I said that I do not believe our country should be in war in Iraq. I never believed the weapons of mass destruction propaganda. I never believed invading Iraq was vital to our national security.
I thought it was a waste of man power, money and more important lives. I read the other day that the United States does not want us to know this dirty little secret.
Did you know more than 100,000 people have died in this war?
I do not approve of this message.
Our men and women are dying daily in this conflict. That is what bothers me most. Families mourn every day as bodies are flown back to the United States.
One of the listeners objected and said he and his friends would never listen to the Sports Inferno again. They said I'd gone beyond my rights. I of course totally disagree and if they don't want to listen that is fine with me.
I will speak my mind and let you know how I feel. That's me.
If you want to march out because of my views you are welcome to do so.
I hate this war and I am not afraid to say it.

Don't worry about them Terry they are fools if they are against free speech. That is what makes our country great and even though I don't necessarily agree with all your views I would never try to silence them. Also, it was great to see you at Wayne State yesterday I'm glad you could make it and hope you enjoyed yourself.

Kent,
That's no problem. People are different. Some don't want to hear views different from there's. I do. You debate and perhaps you learn. I don't want to silence anybody. We got our own agendas and we should be able to push them how we want if we so choose.
And it was fun going to Wayne State Saturday. Good luck to you.

I agree with you Terry. We are over there for b.s. reasons. We have way too many people here that need the help more than those unappreciative people over there. I know it's not all of them but the majority. We need the money here more than they do. Just today I was driving south on I 75 coming home from Detroit and I couldn't count the number of homeless people that were underneath the bridges along the freeway. Why can't we take care of them instead of others. Right or wrong, my belief is that our president (whos's already filthy rich) has one main goal, to become as rich as possible before he leaves office. He has a lot more invested in this war than the American people know about. But we will never know the truth.

Who are they to tell you that you've gone beyond your rights?

Who is anyone to tell you that?

As if they're that important.

Bigheaded.

If someone can't listen to opposing opinions, I would guess they fear realizing they are wrong.

That is one of the great things about the world Terry, give your opinions. Share debates and ideas. I don't have to agree with you to listen to you.

I hate this war too, T. From the internet beheadings to the current Vietnam-like state, it's made me sick from the get-go. And it's your show, your blog, your website - talk about what you want.

It'd be different if you spent an hour each day talking about how many Twinkies and cheeseburgers you eat daily, but this is important, life-changing stuff. You have every right and if people want to leave, let em leave. Rock on CMU!!

The war also contains the agenda of bringing down dictatorship slowly with the assistance of the Iraqi government, there's more to the war now than before when we only used weapons of mass destructions as an excuse.

For every news report about a beheading, there's another report about someone gaining more opportunities to have a better life. Unfortunately the news media rather focus on the negatives.

The show is called the Sports Inferno....key word being Sports. You are absolutely entitled to say whatever you want about the war, that is the beauty of free speech. Just the same, your listener is more than welcome to not listen to your show because of it. I don't like the idea of talking politics on a sports talk show, but I am not going to stop listening to the show because of it. Keep in mind though, if one caller stops listening as a result, there are probably more and I know how important ratings are in your job. That's just my opinion though.

Hey Terry,

I appreciate your point of view on not wanting to going to war and all of the government lies and cover ups...

On the flip side, how do you think some poor Shiite muslim lady who was being persecuted, beaten, tortured, and raped by Saddam's regime feels about him being gone? What do you think about the Iraqi athletes who were beaten and tortured by Saddam's crazy son???

Did you forget the elation going on down in Dearborn the day that statue of Saddam was pulled down and Baghdad became free???

Of course, if you want to talk about how this administration has just totally f'd up the way to go about liberating Iraq, that's another topic for another day...

Keep up the great work!

Terry -- I completely disagree with you, but I'm not going to stop listening or coming here. You're certainly welcome to your opinion. I've travelled the world for Amnesty, Int'l and other groups. I've been to Iraq. Saddam Hussein was a mass murderer who falls only behind Stalin and Hitler. I've seen mass graves -- he killed over 200,000 Kurds alone and (by best estimates), close to a 100,000 Shiites, and God knows how many other people. You might say that it was not our problem -- and maybe it wasn't -- but if you're of that opinion, then you should also feel that Auschwitz wasn't our problem either. I don't seem to remember too many of these peace protestors marching for those fallen souls before the Iraq war. Iraq has a fighting chance for democracy now, to have a government that's representative of its people, and to be a symbol in the Middle East. Will it be easy? Hell no, but neither was the Marshall Plan.

Hey Terry,

Don't let these fools get on your nerves. The same college age guys who are so gung-ho for this war are the same ones who manage not to enlist. If some of these "patriots" are so much in favor of this war then they should join. It's kind of funny when you think about it.
